“Open Day” events: “High Schools go to UPAT”, is taking place every academic year during April. Students from high schools of the region of Patras, visited on M15 (1-19 of April 2023 & 2024) our labs and got informed about the research activities of several Pharmacy and Medicine research groups, including the ESPERANCE participating groups.
An “Open day” for Graduate students of the Medicine Graduate Studies Program students, was also took place on January 24 (M12) and the graduate students in the MSc Biomedical Sciences were introduced to key equipment and applications, with emphasis in advanced imaging. New similar event is scheduled for the January 2025.
To gain experience with dissemination to the public the ESPERANCE teams first focused on participating in other Science Festivals and High School science events. During summer 2023, the Spyroulias group accepted groups of 6-9 students from the “ARSAKEION PATRAS” high school for a week, to offer hands-on experience in protein biochemistry, training in protein expression in bacteria, protein isolation, biophysical characterization and analysis of proteins structures. This activity was advertised through the ARSAKEION PATRAS High School web site. Notably, the activities of the high-school students that were trained at UPAT presented their experiences to their co-students and society through an event at ARSAKEION PATRAS on October 2023 (and will take place again on October-November 2024). Finally, two Summer Internships for High School students were carried out by Medicine ESPERANCE groups, in July 2023, offering them the opportunity to experience first-hand research carried out under the ESPERANCE project.
